I think I’ve finally figured out how much I need to eat in a workday. Today I ate everything I brought in my lil’ lunch sack. You might not think that’s anything worth blogging about, but that’s cause you don’t know my history with this. I’m notorious (among the tiny circle that is me and my husband) for either waaay under-packing (to the point that I’m starving 20 minutes after eating and have to go buy a snack, thus negating the entire point of brown-bagging it), or significantly over-packing, then forgetting my lunch bag in the fridge (cause it still has perishables in it, duh) when I leave for home in a fog of glee. Then the next day I’m forced to use an evil plastic bag to tote my lunch stuffs to the office, thus negating the purpose of my cute lil’ nylon box/bag. (OK, so it’s not actually cute. It’s grey and rectangular and entirely unremarkable. I bought it for my husband but he never uses it cause he rides a motorcycle–and who needs extra things to carry when they’re on a motorcycle?) But today I struck the perfect balance, and I couldn’t be happier. Well, maybe I could have–until about 30 minutes ago when I found out that my father-in-law is making us dinner tonight. But now I’ve reached the pinnacle of food happiness. Happy Monday!
P.S. I’m sorry I don’t seem to blog about crafty or arty things much–read:ever–lately. But stay tuned, even if you find my lunch life boring! Soon to come: my solution to the promo dilemma, photos of vintage deliciousness, and probably something else mundane about my life.

I’ve been pondering ways to best display my necklaces (which make up the largest chunk of my inventory by far) at craft fairs for several months now. I didn’t want any of the commercially available options, either–acrylic or velvet busts or risers. And as much as I like trees and tree-shaped things, many of my pieces just don’t look as dynamic when they’re simply dangling from a stem. Being this picky has left me pretty stumped, and frustrated at the increasingly cluttered look of my table, but I think I’ve finally found a few solutions.
1) I bought a 10′ x 10′ tent. Been putting it off for over a year, making do by sharing with one of my local crafting buds when possible, shying from the seemingly large investment…. But when you do outdoor fairs in Florida between March and October, not having a tent is quite a health hazard. My lovely tent (bonus: it’s tan, not blue or white!) will not only prevent heatstroke and sun poisoning but will also allow me to have more than one table (no, your eyes don’t deceive you–there’s only one in the pic ’cause I forgot to bring my 2nd table yesterday), thus helping alleviate the clutter problem.
2) I can now have one whole table dedicated to my necklaces, and thanks to my new corkboard necklace displays, they won’t all have to lie flat and jumbled on the surface of the table, but can be draped on cork in all their glory. Yay!
Since I was so pleased with how simple and easy my eventual display solution turned out, I thought I’d share the steps here. It’s not reinventing the wheel or anything, but it’s something that can be easily personalized and requires little investment of money or time. (more…)

Tin dollhouse found on side of state road 419.
Oh, Saturday, I love you. Hubby and I just got home from a sweaty but fruitful jaunt at our favorite flea market: Renninger’s in Mount Dora. Scored a sweet rack that I can use for my earrings at craft fairs, and a couple of rare silver spoons. And now we’re readying the grill to cook up some chicken and veggies. Think I’ll make some couscous too.
Anyhoo, I just found out that one of my cards was featured on a blog called I Like It Don’t You earlier this week. Sweet! Also, I’ve been meaning to mention this but keep forgetting: one of my local buds, Jenipher of Cherry RunWay Jewelry, interviewed me for her blog fairly recently. You can read her article here. And you can buy her lovely jewelry here (food miniatures–what’s not to love?). Thanks, Jen!
Did you notice I have blogged daily this week?! Wow. I hope the posts leaned toward quality over quantity, but at least I’m getting more consistent here. One more notable thing about this week: not one, but two treasuries I curated made it to the front page of Etsy this week! [EDIT: Margins has a screen shot of one of them.] I know that may seem like a small thing, and I promise not to post every time it happens (although I hope it does become a more regular occurrence), but I put a lot of thought into creating treasuries and I love that by doing so I am promoting the featured artists, and it’s quite rewarding to have that effort recognized. Plus the fact that it gives those artists soooo much extra exposure. Almost all of the items in one of the treasuries sold during its front-page stint. Yay!
OK, I’m off to chop up veggies and get ready for the Sanford Art Market tomorrow. Happy weekend!

I have to warn you that what follows will be intentionally vague (in the spirit of not counting chickens before they’re hatched and whatnot), but the sentiment behind it is most certainly specific, articulate and deeply-felt (albeit tinged with specks of bittersweet). With that said: It looks like at least one dream of mine that has been deferred for almost two years, thought impossible for all sorts of reasons, and nearly given up on will finally come to fruition, in a matter of months. I literally feel bubbly with the prospect, but I want to let this gestate and come to fullness on its own, without projections and expectations that may never come to be. Rest assured, more details will be forthcoming in this space, and I’ll be chronicling it all as it plays out.

I bring you news of Mega-Craft-Zilla! Well, not really, just this photo and the promise of more photos and actual news…probably tomorrow. I’m pretty worn out…but it’s a good worn out. G’night!

cards, jewelry, crocheted stuff…., originally uploaded by Avenue [Handmade].I’m stoked about this craft show at Dinosaur World! Not only is it my first big-ish show since December, and I’ve got loads of new goodies and a revamped table setup…but I’ve never been to Dino World, so it’s a great excuse to check out this unique local attraction.
(Living in the land of Mickey Mouse and the Holy Land Experience as I do, I don’t mind admitting I’ve never been to most of Orlando’s attractions–but neither do I desire to. Dino World seems a bit more old-school, which is much more appealing to me than, say, “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”)
Another reason to be excited about this show is that my folks are coming down from Jacksonville tonight and will be accompanying me to the show (a big selling point was that they get to bring their pooch…)! It’s always fun to have company at your booth, and my folks don’t usually get to make it to my shows, so I’m honored and thrilled that they’re making the drive. (Although, come to think of it, after this show I think they’ll be tied with my husband–his work schedule is such that he can rarely make it to weekend shows.)
Didn’t plan for this to be such a long post, but I can’t finish without celebrating the fact that yesterday was a red-letter Etsy day for me. I sold 2 items from my handmade shop, plus made one sale in my vintage/destash shop! One sale was thanks to Alchemy, which I have been addicted to since they brought it back 3 days ago.
I seriously, seriously LOVE Alchemy. I’ve already put in several custom requests (not that you couldn’t do that without Alchemy, but the new “Request Custom Item” feature is pretty snazzy), and when I posted an Alchemy request asking for bday ideas for my Mama (hope she doesn’t read this!), I got 40-plus bids within about 20 minutes! I had a heck of a time making a decision among all those great suggestions, lemme tell you. I definitely ended up finding new favorite shops and purchasing other items even from sellers whose bids I declined–which is how I got that sale through Alchemy. The spillover effect when you make a bid is just great. My bid was declined, but the buyer found something else in my shop that they wanted. It’s like the best kind of targeted, yet un-intrustive, marketing. Plus, I love seeing the quirky things people request–everything from pet clothing to a beard and mustache cozy to “Om-Nom-Nom-Nom” panties (<–brilliant!).
OK, off to prep for tomorrow’s show! I’ll be back next week, hopefully with pictures of prehistoric creatures rockin’ my jewelry. Happy weekend and day-after Pi day!

Yesterday after work I got in my car just in time to catch the last 24 seconds of StoryCorps on NPR, which was just in time to hear a mother say these lovely words to her daughter: Knowing you is like reading a really good book–I can’t wait to turn the page and see what happens next.
Beautiful. I wish I could find the rest of the story….
Happy Friday! I’m going to visit my momma this weekend. Yippeee!
